Q: What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?
A: Baby Breath Ultrasound Studio offers an elective 2D, 3D and 4D prenatal ultrasound with the special intent of offering expectant parents the opportunity to view their baby and promote family bonding. Seeing the fantastic images of your baby and being able to actually watch their movements, while still in the womb, helps establish a stronger bond between parents, family and friends with the unborn baby.
Please note: We do not make any claims that 3D ultrasounds should be used to better evaluate the baby for abnormalities. You should have already completed your routine 2nd trimester ultrasound examination used to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for basic fetal anatomy.
Q: What is the difference between 3D and 4D?
A: 4D adds the element of time to your 3D image of your baby. Therefore, in 4D you are able to watch your baby’s movement in real time. We then record this video onto the DVD. The 3D images are individual pictures that captured during your ultrasound.
Q: Can a 3D 4D ultrasound be used to substitute an ultrasound from my doctor?
A: The answer is “NO”. Clients requesting an elective prenatal ultrasound with us must be under the care of a doctor. This is very important, for only your doctor can provide a medical, diagnostic ultrasound to confirm the due date, screen for fetal abnormalities and look for any other pregnancy related concerns. We will be able to confirm the position of your baby, number of babies and the baby’s heart rate.
Q: Is 3D/4D ultrasound safe?
A: Over the last 30 years, never has ultrasound been known to cause any harm to mother or baby. Ultrasound is routinely used in all pregnancies in the United States. 3D 4D sonograms have the exact same type of intensity as ultrasonic waves that are used with all traditional 2D ultrasounds.
Q: Do you require an appointment?
A: Yes, we recommend that you contact us about two weeks ahead of time to schedule your appointment.
Q: How long should I allow my appointment?
A: You should plan on spending about 60 minutes. This will depend a lot on the package you choose. Your 3D 4D ultrasound session will last somewhere between 10 – 30 minutes depending on the package you choose. Please arrive a few minutes early to fill out required paperwork. After your session, you will be presented with your DVD and all of your pictures which vary depending on your package.
Q: What do I need to do before my appointment?
A: First off, things to avoid eating are dark meats. You should have only a light meal the night before your appointment. Do not drink coffee. To help your baby wake up, drink your favorite juice or soda (orange juice or apple juice are great) 20 minutes before your appointment to help wake up your baby, unless you have gestational diabetes. Bring a picture of the ultrasound from your doctor. We need it to confirm you are under prenatal care. We will make a photocopy it and then give it back to you.
Q: When is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound?
A: If you are planning on having only one 4D ultrasound, the best time schedule your visit is between 26 - 30 weeks. Most of our clients come twice (discounts apply), with your first visit between 21 - 24 weeks and your second between 27 - 32 weeks.
Q: How good of pictures will I receive?
A: We normally get great pictures. However, there are many factors that affect the clarity of your images. The baby’s position, or the baby having an arm, leg or foot blocking the face, the amount of amniotic fluid, the tissue density of the mother, and the gestational age can all affect the outcome of the pictures. If we do not able to obtain any pictures on your initial visit, due to these items, we will schedule another attempt and appointment.
Q: Do you have a return policy?
A: If we are unable to obtain any pictures of your baby on your initial visit, we will schedule an appointment for you to come back within one week at no additional charge. If on your second appointment, we are still unable to obtain pictures, due to the baby’s position, you can choose to come back a third time, for a $30 charge. This will only be scheduled if we believe that good pictures are obtainable.
Q: Are family and friends allowed?
A: We invite you to bring friends and family to share in this wonderful experience. However, we can only seat least 5 adults comfortably, but we will never limit the number of guests.
Q: Can you tell if it is a boy or a girl?
A: All of our packages include gender determination, if preferred. Normally, we are able to verify the gender; however we cannot always guarantee this for the baby may not cooperate. The earliest we can do gender confirmation is 17 weeks.
Q: What if I am having twins or triplets?
A: The best time for an ultrasound is between 24 - 26 weeks and you will need to schedule your appointment accordingly. Also, we will need amble time to try to get images on both of your babies. So, your ultrasound session will most likely be longer, and you will receive more pictures than someone having a single baby. We will need to add $50.00 to the price of any of our ultrasound packages.
Q: Is this covered by my insurance?
A: At this time, insurance does not pay for this elective procedure. You will need to cover the costs at the time of service. We accept Visa, MasterCard and cash.
Q: What kind of ultrasound machine do you use for the 3D/4D ultrasound?
A: We use the high-tech High Definition - Medison Sonoace SA 8000. This machine is the best 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound machine available. Many other ultrasound studios claim to use state-of-the-art equipment, while using outdated technology, resulting in a lower quality images.
